GIFF 70
GIFF 70
GENTOFTE, Copenhagen, Denmark

The beautiful Gentofte Kino located just outside central Copenhagen. GIFF 70 will focus exclusively on the majestic and legendary 7OMM format. The Kino opened in 1938, and has welcomed guests for 87 years! In fact today, it is the second largest Danish single screen cinema with 290 comfortable Quinette seats. The matt-white screen is 12 meters wide and with a proper CinemaScope curve. The Kino is equipped with DATSAT and Dolby Stereo for 70mm, a brand new 4K digital projector, and not least with proper curtains in front of the screen. This is a unique opportunity to see some recent films presented in authentic 70mm and some vintage classics. Do not miss this rare chance to see some of the greatest films in a real cinema.

MIR 70, Krnov, Czech republik

After a year the majestic cinema Mir 70 will become a place where true film fans of celluloid from many European counties – especially enthusiasts loving the widescreen format – will meet. Three days of a rare occasion to see great 70mm movies screened on a 105 square meters of slightly curved screen and good opportunity to remember history of "old school" cinema technology in the digital era of today. The foundation of this festival goes back to 2005 when a small 7OMM seminar has since spread wide to the international popularity with visitors not only from the Czech Republic but also from many European counties, including Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Poland, Slovak republic, United States and United Kingdom. Unique cine-meeting organized by the Municipal cultural centre in Krnov under patronage of the Town Hall and mayor of Krnov together with State Cinematography Fund and supported by many volunteers.

Panorama Weekend
Panorama Weekend
PANORAMA, Vansdorf, Czech republik

Cinema Panorama in Varnsdorf offers a unique technical equipment with curved screen. Projected image size is up to 135 square meters. Cinema is projected as 70mm with a triangular floor plan and the projection screen is considerably moved to viewers and has practically no stage. Designed capacity is of 550 seats. Projection booth has installed all classic projection technology i.e. 16mm, 35mm (2x), 70mm (2x) and Christie digital projector. Hardware is not only in perfect technical condition, but all improving go beyond the original technology. We are so prepared for film copies, which, due to the effects of the ravages of time are not perfect. Projectors UM 70/35 we have adapted for screening shrink copies, in the sound system we added noise suppression for audio records without Dolby. Furthermore, we have installed Dolby A or Dolby SR or other audio systems for 70mm films having e.g. the low bass frequencies in a particular track or have stereo sound effects. All recordings are played as they were technically worked on the film copy, but through modern sound processor and speakers. Our philosophy is to offer movies that are very rare on similar 70 mm shows. Of course, we can never be quite sure, if anyone has ever organize some screenings alone outside regular festivals, but about many films we failed to get the information that they would have been in recent years played somewhere.

Todd-AO
Todd-AO
SCHAUBURG, Karlsruhe, Germany

As part of a reorientation of our festival plans, we have decided to combine the annual 70mm festival with the Technicolor festival and to hold it every year on the extended Whitsun weekend from 2025. Please note the date for the ‘18th Todd-AO 70mm & 35mm Technicolor Festival’ from 5 to 9 June 2025. Instead of three, there will now be five full festival days with analogue film screenings in 70mm large-format and 35mm Technicolor format on the large curved CINERAMA screen at the Schauburg. In addition, lectures, seminars and symposia are planned in the adjoining rooms of the Schauburg and in another cinema. So look forward with us to a new festival format in a tried and tested format, with hospitality and lots of analogue discoveries.

LK + FK, Banska Bystrica, Slovakia

Currently, 70mm festivals are regularly organized all over the world. The Banská Bystrica show in the Slovak Republic has several characteristics that make it significantly different from other 70mm shows in Europe. It is both an open-air show and the smallest 70mm film festival. Only three 70mm screenings will take place over three days. It is the only (known) and regular open-air presentation of 70mm films in Europe. The Amphitheatre in Banska Bystrica is the last known large outdoor summer cinema in Europe that can also screen 70mm films. The screenings take place on a gigantic 32 x 15 metre panoramic screen with a beautiful view of the city of Banská Bystrica in the evening light behind it. To make the day more interesting, we prepared a presentation of 8mm, 16mm and 35mm techniques and films in the cinema hall of the SNP Museum. Visitors can see films of different formats, genres and from different historical periods. We hope that everyone will find something that will interest them. The programme of the weekend will be intense and moreover the city of Banská Bystrica offers many other opportunities to enjoy your time. The show was prepared for you by OZ for Amphitheatre!, the SNP Museum and the Film Club in Banská Bystrica.
